This activity is specifically designed to cover topics in the DEA requirements around training on treatment and management of patients with opioid use disorder (OUD). This extensive course outlines the extent and some of the causes of the opioid crisis in the US. It additionally covers both office and prescriber roles in treating and managing patients with OUD including tapering protocols and appropriate clinical use of medically assisted treatment (MAT). The course also highlights the role of the interprofessional team in the management of their patients.
* Demonstrate an understanding of best practices around use of opioids and how to access and utilize CDC and other national organization recommendations for providing pain care. * Discuss the history of the opioid crisis in the US and why it continues to be a leading cause of morbidity and mortality. * Articulate measures to individualize pain management for a specific patient’s pain type and anticipated duration of pharmaceutical interventions. * Discuss common signs of OUD and articulate some methods of medically assisted treatment for management.
