This activity is complementary to other opioid courses, but it also stands alone in teaching about the current opioid crisis in the US and how to help compassionately and effectively care for patients on chronic opioids or with opioid use disorder (OUD). While addressing these issues, the course describes the regulatory guidance, indications, contraindications, best practice in usage of prescribing and managing opioids, and highlights the role of the interprofessional team in the management of their patients.
