This course focuses primarily on educating providers about the history and extent of the opioid crisis in the US and instructs prescribers about how to approach care to help reduce the crisis. It describes the regulatory guidance, indications, contraindications, best practice in usage of prescribing and managing opioids, and highlights the role of the interprofessional team in the management of their patients.
* Demonstrate an understanding of how to access and utilize CDC recommendations for clinicians providing pain care, including those prescribing opioids. * Discuss the history of the opioid crisis in the US. * Articulate measures to individualize pain management for a specific patient’s pain type and anticipated duration. * Discuss common signs of OUD.
